2 tablespoons anise seed 
3 tablespoons rum 
1 1/4 cups butter 
3/4 cup white sugar 
1 1/2 teaspoons vanilla extract 
2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour 
1 egg 
1/2 teaspoon salt 
1 teaspoon baking powder 
1 1/2 teaspoons ground cloves
Place the anise seeds in a very little bowl with the rum. put aside to steep nightlong.
